Bradwell – Yorkshire Junior Championships:

Saturday, 10th July saw many of CVFR’s younger members in action at the Yorkshire Junior Championship’s Tour of Bradwell (TOB) event – with different length races for the various age groups.

As usual, competition was stiff, but the red & white pocket rocket, Clara McKee, left the rest of the field for dust. She won the 2.3km U13 girls’ race, with its tough 173m of climb, in 13.31 – more than 1 minute 20 seconds faster than the second placed girl, & nearly half a minute faster than any of the boys in her age category.

Also running strongly for the girls – & another one to watch the future – Ishbel Symington placed second in the under 9 girls’ 1km (68m ascent) race. Ishbel reports having ‘felt like giving up on the second hill’ but being glad she didn’t. She was ‘so pleased to finish nearly half a minute ahead of the third placed female U9 runner in 6 minutes 33 seconds.

In the boys’ races, U11’s Mani Kaler ran well against a strong line-up to finish the 1.7km (122m ascent) race in 22nd place after unfortunately twisting his ankle. In the U13’s Ted Parker flew the red & white striped flag, running the 2.3km race in a little over 23 minutes, & placing 27th against some stiff competition. In the U15 races, Thomas McKee ran strongly to cross the line in this 4.7km race (complete with 275m of climb) in 25:05 minutes, placing a very credible 5th overall.

The U17’s race a full route of 7km, complete with a lung-busting 367m of climb. Calder Valley’s Elijah Peers Webb ran exceptionally well to clinch 9th place in the boys’ race, completing this difficult course against some exceptionally talented runners in 36 minutes and 13 seconds. Euan Logue was the second placed CVFR U17, finishing around four minutes after his teammate to place 17th overall.
