It was a busy weekend for the junior Calder Valley Fell runners with 2 very different races to finish the Sprink Bank Holidays in style.

The first on Saturday, took 13 of the club’s runners to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales near the Malham Cove to compete in the English FRA Junior Championships. It was a bright sunny day but the course was as expected very challenging. In the Under 10’s James Duffy secured a well earned 5th place, with Joseph Hobbs and William Hall doing well in 12th and 14th place respectively, with Patrick Casey and George Whitaker finishing futher down the field. Eilo Beesley, Edward Hall and Beth Blacker competed well in the under 12’s. Fearne Hanson was the 9th girl in the under 8’s with Wynn Sandish not far behind. In the under 18s race Jack Denton had a great run to secure third place with his team mate Matthew Murray placing a fine 8th and Martin Howard running in the under 16s getting 10th. All runners came home with a fetching medal.

On Sunday, 16 of it’s members took to the West Riding of Yorkshire for the Saddleworth Moor Junior Fell Races where the rain started during the first race and didn’t want to stop. Fortunatley the results were positively dominated by the club. In the under 8’s, Fearne Hanson was the 2nd girl home. In the under 10’s, 1st (James Duffy), 2nd (Billy Blacker), 3rd (Joseph Hobbs), 4th (William Hall) and 5th (Patrick Casey) positions were secured by the club. The under 12’s put on a good show with Eilo Beesley (2nd) and Alex Duffield (3rd), Beth Blacker and Maya Brunt coming home 2nd and 3rd girls. Well done to everybody that ran.
