Come celebrate our 10th anniversary …..

junior 10 yearsCalder Valley juniors is TEN years old this month.

It’s been good fun all the way and in order to celebrate we can’t think of anything more appropriate than going for a run. The full route is of course 10 miles, one mile for each year.

The route starts at MCC and takes in Stoodley Pike which has been a long term aim of all the juniors across the years “can we run to Stoodley” well finally it’s YES we can. It takes in various Coiners race routes to get there and then returns picking up bits of the annual junior handicap race. We then come back through Mytholmroyd across the old bridge and then climb up to where the Reservoir Bogs race used to start from and then back along the skyline to Sheeptones and back down to MCC. Exactly 10 miles.

We will be treating it as a big group run, its not a race just a nice steady bimble with friends, we will stick together but even so it will be too far for a lot of you.

We want it to feel inclusive and we want everyone who wants to be part of it to be able to be part of it. That’s what the club is about afterall. So Al has run the route and worked out some timings and distances which are listed below along with the map and should help people to know which bits they can do.

We aim to start at 9.30 on Sun 26th June from MCC car park.

CVFR_juniors_10The timings below are approximate but should give a good enough guide so people can meet us and join in or drop out as necessary.

Arrive at Stoodley Pike between 10 – 10.15am. – 2.75 miles to Stoodley.
Arrive at Wood Hey Road between 10.30 – 10.45am – 5.12 miles to here.
Arrive at the bridge in Mytholmroyd between 10.45 – 11.00am – it’s 6 miles done by then. (We will have a water station and biscuits/small buns here just to pep up the ones who are doing 10 miles as they will need to refuel)

So from the above you can do 6 miles or if you wanted to meet us at Stoodley you would run just 3.25 (downhill) miles or you could meet us at Wood Hey road and save yourselves a full 5.12 miles or bail out there and only do that 5.12 miles. Hopefully you can see the various options unfolding.

Arrive at Heights Rd between 11.00 – 11.15am – its 7 miles to here.
Arrive at Sheepstones between 11.15 – 11.30am – 8.6 miles by then (where we hope to have a picnic)

We should be back at MCC by 11.45 – 12.00noon.

So you could do all of the first loop then rest for a while and rejoin at Sheepstones for the last bit if you do the second loop then you will do 4 miles. Most of our juniors will be able to do the second loop but to make it easier still join in at Heights Rd and run just 3 miles. Lots and lots of options for you.

We are hoping that everyone who wants to be part of this will at the very least be able to be at Sheepstones for the last 1.5 miles downhill romp.

It would be great if we can have support along the way from any parent or junior who can cheer folk on and more importantly sort out refreshments. Please let me know what part you can play in making the day a success. (Alistair Whitelaw: alastairw63@gmail.com)

Here’s to the next 10 years but we might have to convert to km for that one.
